VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT (Announcement No. 09/33)(Re-advertised) OPEN TO: American Eligible Family Members POSITION: Regional Security Office Assistant, FP-8 OPENING DATE: August 10, 2009 CLOSING DATE: October 30, 2009 WORK HOURS: Part-time; 30 hours/week SALARY: Actual grade and salary will be based on the qualifications of the applicant. NOTE: ONLY CANDIDATES ELIGIBLE FOR U.S. SECURITY CLEARANCE WILL BE CONSIDERED.
The U.S. Embassy in Vientiane is seeking an individual for the position of Regional Security Office Assistant in the Regional Security Office (RSO).
BASIC FUNCTION OF POSITION
The incumbent works in a part-time position under supervision of Regional Security Officer and is responsible for the effective operation of all aspects of the office management to include managing the mission identification system, monitoring visitor and vehicle access requests, scheduling security briefings, ensuring arriving, departing and TDY personnel execute various forms, issuing vehicle permits for all compounds, maintaining an inventory of all RSO equipment and ensuring adequate stocks of expendable supplies are on hand, and performing other administrative duties as needed such as general filing, destruction of documents, typing and entry of information into office computer system and document scanning. Prepares Incident Reports and maintains database of various security matters at both the local and headquarters level. Drafts routine correspondence for the RSO, as well as cables requesting and granting country clearances for many visitors to post. Completes education checks for candidates selected for FSN positions; and processes paperwork on background investigations and name checks. Spearheads all computer-related problems and coordinates with the Help Desk on software and new programs. Preparing travel schedules, completing, reviewing and correcting travel vouchers, coordinating cash advances, drafting and sending all office correspondence, screening calls, maintaining office files and inventory reports. Other duties may be assigned as necessary. The position has no supervisory responsibility. QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED NOTE: All applicants must address each selection criterion detailed below with specific and comprehensive information supporting each item. Education: Completion of university/college.
Experience: One to two years of experience in performing secretarial duties and/or office management function is required.
Language: Good command of written and spoken English is required. Basic Lao language is desirable.
Knowledge: Thorough knowledge of the Microsoft suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint & Access) is required.
Skills and abilities: Typing at least 45 w.p.m; Ability to work independently, be flexible, resourceful, service-oriented, and self-motivated, and to work within the existing mission structure is required.
Security Clearance: A U.S. Government security clearance is required for this position; applicants without a current security clearance must be eligible to apply for one. Education: Completion of university/college. TO APPLY
