Speech Contest Highlights International Education Week

One brave contestant gives his speech in front of the judges and an audience of his peers
The first speech contest held at the American Center in Vientiane was a remarkable success for the 20 brave participants and three judges. On November 28, the speech contestants delivered their opinions on the pros and cons of “Going Abroad to Study English” to an audience of more than 40 of their peers.

The speech contest follows a workshop on public speaking earlier in the month, and was designed to encourage students to sharpen their skills and increase their comfort with speaking in front of an audience. The contestants were judged on how well they organized the speeches, their composure, and their delivery. After some difficult deliberations, the judges finally made their decision:

-- Miss. Douangmany Heuangkhamsene received the first prize award of a Talking Dictionary worth $130.

-- Mr. Sengsoulixay Phoudavong, received the second prize award of TOEFL and GMAT preparation kits worth $100.

-- Ms. Analin Phoutsavath, received the third prize award of a TOEFL preparation kit worth $50.
