U.S. Embassy Organizes Trade Seminars in Lao Provinces

Economic Officer Scotts Rolston and a small team from the U.S. Embassy in Vientiane traveled to Khammoune and Bolikhamsay provinces to conduct two seminars on “Opportunities and Obligation of Normal Trade Relations with the United States ” September 8-9, 2005.
The seminars were attended by 70 business people and officials in Khammoune province and by 53 participants in Bolikhamsay province. Dr. Rolston answered question about which products would find a market in the U.S., and about U.S. Customs entry procedures, and learned that a several businesses are already exporting wood products to the U.S.
The Embassy group also visited Lao Customs officials to ensure that they were abiding by the tariff tables in the Bilateral Trade Agreement.
