Third American Center Election Talk Focuses on Campaigning and Polling (Oct. 26, 2004)

Forty-one Lao college students attended an enjoyable talk by EAP/PD’s Anne Seshadri at the American Center in Vientiane that focused on the American style of campaigning and the importance of public opinion polling. At this talk, the third in a series of talks organized by Vientiane’s Public Affairs Section, the speaker explained the importance of battleground or swing states to the outcome of the election, and showed part of the video “Vote For Me,” which gave the students a feel for the hard work and excitement of an election campaign. Handouts included maps in red, blue, and white illuminating the direction states are likely to vote, biodata of both candidates, and a list of websites for further information. Students were also invited to attend the Election Morning program on November 3.
