Second American Center Election Talk Focuses on How Americans Decide Whom to Vote For (Oct. 21, 2004)
Thirty-four Lao students attended the second talk in the Public Affairs Section’s series of programs on the presidential elections at the Vientiane American Center (Corner). This talk focused on how Americans decide whom to vote for president and how they get the information they need to make an intelligent decision. The program highlighted the importance of print and on-line sources of information, noted the importance of television advertising in the battleground states, and concluded with a showing of part of the third Debate. This program built on the basic knowledge of the U.S. Election procedures and the campaign timeline that students acquired in the first session. This talk generated many more questions than the first talk, with student interest centering around who will win the election and why.
