US CDC turns over Personal Protective
Equipment to the Ministry of Health in
support of Avian Influenza Pandemic
Preparedness measures.
On October 19, Acting Deputy Chief of Mission Harvey Somers represented the U.S. Embassy in a ceremony commemorating the donation of personal protective equipment to combat Avian Influenza. Lao officials at the ceremony included Vice Minister of Health Eksavang Vongvichith, Chief of Cabinet Chanthanom Manodham, and Dr. Some Mone Phounsavath. The U.S. Agency for International Development, in cooperation with the Centers for Disease Control, have provided 4000 packages of personal protective equipment to medical facilities in Laos.
