U.S. Embassy Fosters Expertise in the Faculty of Forestry at the Lao National University
November 1 - December 12, 2005
Between November 1 and December 12 the U.S. Embassy, Public Affairs Section (PAS) sponsored a six-week instructional Fulbright Senior Specialist program, conducted at the Faculty of Forestry, National University of Laos and at the Lao-American College. The lecturer was Dr. Denial H. Henning, who spoke on Interdisciplinary and Protected Area Management, Protected Areas and Wildlife, Environmental Forest Administration, Values and Tropical Environments, Ecotourism, and Protection Areas, and Ecotourism.
The program aimed to assist faculty to develop syllabi for a new graduate program in Biodiversity Conservation and Ecotourism Management; as well as to elaborate guidelines for best field practices and a facilitate a manual of short-term training courses to be used to organize training for forestry officials. The approach was explicitly multi-disciplinary, and intended to highlight how these issues are debated in the U.S.
