Embassy Sponsors Training For Lao English Teachers (March 18, 2005)

Training session for Lao English Teachers.

This was a busy week for English teaching in Vientiane.

A grant from the Public Affairs Section enabled over 100 teachers from every province in Laos to attend the 6 th Annual Lao TESOL, the largest and most important annual training program for Lao teachers of English. DCM Kristen Bauer delivered opening remarks highlight the importance of training for English teachers, and the Director of Lao TESOL was effusive in his praise of the Embassy's sponsorship of the event. Apart from Lao TESOL, Bangkok-based Regional English Language Officer Richard Boyum gave a paper on the importance of cooperation among English teachers and how they can learn from each other. Boyum also gave a talk at the American Center on “Internet Resources for English Teachers and Learners for teachers from the National University and other colleges and institutions.
