U.S. Government Continues Support For Combating Bird Flu

Ms. Chanthanom Manotham, Chief of
Cabinet, Lao Ministry of Health,
exchange copies of the MOU.

On June 2, the U.S. and Lao Governments signed a Memorandum of Understanding regarding the use of funds provided by the United States to combat Avian Influenza and other infectious diseases in Laos.

The signing ceremony was led by Ms. Kristen F. Bauer, Deputy Chief of Mission, U.S. Embassy, Vientiane, and Ms. Chanthanom Manotham, Chief of Cabinet, Lao Ministry of Public Health. The Memorandum marks the placement of a Center for Disease Control (CDC) official, Dr. Andrew Corwin, at the US Embassy to further US-Lao cooperation in combating Avian Influenza and other infectious diseases. The United States is providing $3.408 million in FY06 to help the Lao people fight Avian Influenza.
