Embassy Sponsors Economic Seminar (June 23, 2003)

The American Embassy is sponsoring the three-day seminar “Economic Renovation in Vietnam: Lessons for the Lao P.D.R.,” to be held at the Bank of Lao, P.D.R., June 23-27.
The seminar will be conducted by a Dr. Chi Do Pham, a former IMF representative to Laos. Dr. Chi will address such subjects as: “A Decade of Vietnam’s DoiMoi In Retrospect: 1989-99;” “A Revisit to the Lao Economy, 1990-2003: Past Experiences and Current Perspectives;” and “An Overview of Bank Restructuring in Selected Asian Countries.” More than 45 Lao officials from the Bank of Lao, P.D.R. and other Ministries will attend the program.
Douglas A. Hartwick, U.S. Ambassador to the Lao, PD.R., and H. E. Mr. Phoumy Thipphavone, Governor of the Bank of Lao P.D.R., will give welcome remarks at the Opening Ceremony.
