Between June 16-20, 2003, the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) and Narcotics Affairs Section (NAS) of the United States Embassy sponsored an Airport/Postal Narcotics Interdiction Training Seminar at the Lao Plaza Hotel, Vientiane, Laos.

Lao Customs Department Officials from Vientiane, Champasak, Bokeo, Louang Nam Tha, Louang Phrabang, Bolikhamxai and Savannakhet Provinces attended this week-long training, which included hands-on practical training at Wattay International

The seminar was scheduled as part of larger counter narcotics assistance plan for Lao Customs by the DEA and NAS, which has seen the introduction of high-tech X-ray and drug detection machines at both the airport and postal facility in Vientiane.

The seminar was planned by the DEA International Training Unit, and the instructors came from the International Narcotics Interdiction Association.
