Reception Brings American and Lao Students and Professors Together (Jan. 4, 2005)

Ambassador Patricia Haslach hosted a reception to bring 25 students, faculty and staff from Saint Cloud State University, located in Saint Cloud, Minnesota, together with more than a dozen Lao students and faculty from the National University of Laos and private colleges in Vientiane. Many members of the Saint-Cloud group, ethnic Lao- and Hmong-American whose parents emigrated to the U.S. at the end of the Vietnam War, were able to meet close relatives they had never seen before. Saint Cloud University arranged the visit to increase just this type of people-to-people interaction, to increase understanding between Lao and Americans, and to gather information for classes on Southeast Asia.
