Seminar Supports Normal Trade Relations (Feb. 1, 2005)
 |
| Dr. Richard Cronin leads a session on comparative economics. |
The Public Affairs Section, working with the Lao Ministry of Foreign Affairs, has organized a two-week seminar on "Comparative Economic Systems in Southeast Asia” to provide 24 participants with information on the economic systems, policies, and practices that Laos' ASEAN neighbors adopted as they opened as they opened up to greater trade and investment over the last decade. Dr. Richard Cronin, from the Congressional Research System, who is teaching the course, has focused the seminar on knowledge that Lao officials most need to take advantage of opportunities open to Laos now that Normal Trade Relations (NTR) between the U.S. and Laos is in effect.
The participants are from a wide range of Lao offices involved with various aspects of trade and investment, including the Ministries of Foreign Affairs, Justice, Finance, Commerce, Agriculture, and Industry and Handicrafts; the National Assembly, the PM's Office, STEA, and the Committee for Planning and Cooperation, the National University of Laos, The National Chamber of Commerce and Industry, and the Institute of Foreign Affairs.
