Lao Students Learn More about Economics and Trade with the United States

Dr. Scott Rolston talks at the American Center on "Economy and Trade in Laos"

On February 1, twenty Lao students attended the talk at the American Center on “Economy and Trade in Lao” by Dr. Scott Rolston, Economic Officer at the U.S. Embassy, Vientiane. Rolston addressed the problem of limited employment opportunities for young people in Laos and the misfortunes that can befall them when working in other countries. He then explained the steps Laos needs to take to attract foreign investors and foreign companies to Laos: improvements in the rule of law, the banking sector, and human resources; and support for all of the private sector, not just for big foreign companies. This talk was the latest in the series of talks by American Officers presented at the American Center on the first Wednesday of every month organized by the Embassy's Public Affairs Section.
