American and Lao Students and Professors Meet at a Reception
December 29, 2005
On December 29, U.S. Ambassador Patricia Haslach hosted a reception at her residence to introduce 60 students, staff and professors from Saint Cloud State University
(Minnesota) to 2006 Fulbright and Humphrey Scholarship candidates and alumni, Lao National University deans, faculty and staff, as well as students from Lao American College in Vientiane. This was the second visit by a St. Cloud group to Laos. Many in the group had Lao or Hmong cultural heritage, their parents having emigrated to the U.S. after the end of the Indochina War. Most of them had never visited Laos. Saint Cloud University arranges these visits to boost people-to-people interaction and increase understanding between Laos and Americans, as well as to give the American students an opportunity to gather information for their classes on Southeast Asia.
