On August 1, 2007, the U.S. Embassy Vientiane’s Information Resource Center organized a film showing at the Faculty of Engineering, National University of Laos. This month’s “U.S. Technology Today” event is part of a continuing series showcasing developments in modern technology with their practical applications. Among other advances, the most recent episode highlighted the use of robots instead of people at different manufacturing plants in Japan and the United states, working in space with NASA, the integration of digital camera and mobile phone technology, solar energy, and how modern composite materials are created. More than 50 students and staff from the Faculty of Engineering and various departments around campus attended. After watching the film, students had a chance to exchange ideas about the impact of new technology and learn some new terminology in English.
