Embassy Seminar Educates Lao Business (April 4, 2005)

The latest in an ongoing series of seminars to support American trade with and investment in Laos attracted 160 business people from Lao and third country companies based in Laos. Co-sponsored by the Lao Ministry of Commerce and the Embassy, the seminar "Trading With the United States: New Opportunities" was designed to provide support for the private sector in Laos, and included several presentations on how to find an American partner to market goods from Laos, how to obtain financing, and understanding U.S. Customs procedures. Another session focused on the steps the Lao government needs to take to support the Lao private sector, including reforming the banking sector so that financing is available for Lao companies.
Ambassador Patricia M. Haslach, in her welcoming remarks, noted that the U.S. Embassy will do all that it can to help the Lao government and Lao businesses take advantage of the opportunities to export to the U.S. open now that Normal Trade Relations is in effect.
