U. S. Embassy Donates $10,000 to English Language Training for Lao Media

On October 31, U.S. Ambassador to Laos Ravic Huso presided over a ceremony to grant $10,000 to Lao National Radio and Lao National Television to support English language training for journalists and staff.  The Director General of Lao National Radio, Mr. Sipha Nonglath, and the Director General of Lao National Television, Dr. Bounchom Vongphet, accepted on behalf of their organizations.

Ambassador Huso noted in his remarks that English is the language of ASEAN, the first language of the Internet, and the language most commonly used in international media training.  Journalists and staff with English language skills will be better prepared to interview foreign guests, research information, and interact with their colleagues around the world.

Lao National Radio also received a grant for English language training earlier this year, valued at $5,000.
