U.S. Ambassador Ravic Huso Observes the 7th Annual National Day Against Drugs

Ambassador Ravic Huso delivers his remarks at the ceremony

On October 23, 2008, Ambassador Huso was a featured speaker at a ceremony for the 7^th National Day Against Drugs, with the Mayor of Vientiane Municipality presiding. Ambassador Huso’s remarks to an audience of nearly 1,000, made up largely of high school and college students, concerned ongoing U.S. counter narcotics assistance to Laos. Since 1989, the U.S. has provided around $38 million dollars to help the Lao government reduce opium production, treat opium and methamphetamine addiction, and capture traffickers of illegal drugs.
