POSITION:     Driver, FSN-3; FP-BB
OPENING DATE:  July 31, 2008
CLOSING DATE:  August 14, 2008
WORK HOURS:    Full-time; 48 hours/week

SALARY:    Actual grade and salary will be based on the qualifications of the applicant.

NOTE: THIS IS A LOCAL POSITION. SELECTED CANDIDATE WILL COME UNDER LOCAL LABOR LAW, AND BE PAID BY LOCAL COMPENSATION PLAN. 

ALL ORDINARILY RESIDENT APPLICANTS MUST BE RESIDING IN LAOS AND HAVE THE REQUIRED WORK AND/OR RESIDENCY PERMITS TO BE ELIGIBLE FOR CONSIDERATION.

The U.S. Embassy in Vientiane is seeking an individual for the position of Driver in the General Services Office (GSO), Management Section.

BASIC FUNCTION OF POSITION

Serves as an Embassy’s Chauffeur, operates Embassy passenger vehicles & trucks, drives American Officers/VIP visitors to other provinces in Laos, drives VIP/Delegations during official visits to Laos, drives Officers/Local Staff to Nongkhai and Udornthani, Thailand on official business, acts as an Ambulance’s driver stands by 24 hours in case of any emergency/Medevac. Performs daily vehicles checks before operating and notify GSO/Dispatcher any technical problems, delivers Diplomatic notes, letters, etc. to Government Offices, Embassies and International Organizations. Follows up Diplomatic notes in MFA while GSO-Admin Assistant is on leave. Assists mail-man to collect and deliver pouches from airport to the Embassy, assists GSO to provide expediter services at the airport.                                                                                
    
QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED

NOTE: All applicants must address each selection criterion detailed below with specific and comprehensive information supporting each item.

1.   Education: Completion of Elementary School is required.
2.   Prior Work Experience: At least one year working experience as a driver
3.   Language Proficiency: Be able to communicate in English is required.
4.   Knowledge: Knows how to operate and perform minor repairs to passenger vehicles & trucks. Be familiar with local laws and traffic.
5.   Skills and Abilities: Possess valid driving licenses for both passenger cars & trucks.
