The Public Diplomacy Section of the U.S. Embassy, Vientiane organized an “African-American History Month Exhibition” at the American Corner, Lao-American College, Vientiane on February 13, 2009.
The exhibition displayed information about the lives and contributions of a number of significant African-American citizens in various fields (Barack Obama, Martin Luther King Jr., Louis Armstrong, Ella Fitzgerald, Michael Jordan and Tiger Woods).
The exhibition was well attended by Lao-American College students and staff members, who enjoyed listening to jazz music, watching a recording of President Obama’s inaugural speech, and answering quiz questions from the display. The booklet Barack Obama, 44th President of the United States, translated into Lao, was distributed to all interested participants.
This exhibition was one in a series of cooperative activities between the U.S. Embassy and the Lao-American College.
