Revised as of January 2008There are presently few independent lawyers in Laos. Any lawyer seeking to represent a foreign citizen in a criminal matter must obtain prior permission from the Ministry of Justice. The lawyers listed below do not all speak English. Those that do not speak English usually have English-speaking staff available. The Embassy of the United States provides the names of the following lawyers as a service to American citizens seeking legal advice. The Embassy offers no recommendations regarding these lawyers nor does the Embassy accept any responsibility for their professional competence or probity, nor for any costs involved in procuring their services.
